Admirals prove depth on the road

Weekend Summary for games away V Dunedin Thunder 10th and 11th June 2017

Game one Saturday – Final score 7-3 Admirals win.

If anyone had any doubts about the depth of the Admirals local roster the team sent those thoughts to Davey Jones locker on Saturday scoring six of the teams seven goals.

Andy Hart and Dylan Dickson both tallied their season firsts alongside Gareth McLeish who was playing his 150th Admirals appearance and added icing to the cake by scoring.

Nick Henderson also started lighting the lamp, popping two behind the Thunder goal tender. Henderson, Taylor Rooney and Dale Harrop all having three point nights.

Despite the final score the Thunder never gave West Auckland an inch and held a 2-1 lead going into the second period. The Admirals relentless pressure and hard work started to shine through in the second and third periods scoring another six goals.

Goal tender Csaba Kercso-Magos Jr had a solid performance in net stopping 25 of 28 shots.

Game two Sunday – Final score 7-3 Admirals win.

Sunday marked another incredible achievement with Nick Craig reaching 100 NZIHL appearances in an Admirals jersey.

Sundays game played out similar to Saturdays with the Thunder taking the lead first on ice that was proving to be very bouncy, but before the end of the 1st period the game was tied 2-2.

Frazer Ellis scored his first of the season early in the second and then the Admirals top line caught fire scoring the next three.

The third period also started well with Adrian Toth scoring and incredibly quick 12 seconds after the centre ice faceoff.

The Admirals also showing amazing depth in goal with Rick Parry stopping 27 of 30 shots.

Over the entire weekend home grown players totalled 50% of the goals scored, proving the depth and capabilities of the entire roster. The team have now taken full points from the first four games of the season and are looking to continue the roll against Canterbury Red Devils at home this weekend.
