The team had a split weekend against the defending champions. Both games were intense and highly competitive.

Game one – 4-1 Admirals win.

This was to be a clash of the NZIHL titans and both the Admirals and Skycity Stampede knew it.

Game one started hard with big collisions going both ways. Skycity taking the lead with a goal from Martikainen and holding it until the end of the first period.

However, the tides would change in the second period with Ellis and Harrop both scoring for the Admirals.

The third period was again controlled by the Admirals and Adrian Toth got a pair of goals to put the game out of reach for the Skycity Stampede

Game two – 5-3 Stampede win.

Sundays game definitely brought the intensity to two on form hockey teams. The game was very physical throughout.

Battani scored early for the Admirals but was followed shortly after by Stampedes McIntosh.

The second period also saw one goal each with Ratcliffe picking up his first goal back in an Admirals Jersey this season.

The third period got a bit out of hand with a serious injury to Admirals captain Justin Daigle. Skycity Stampede putting away three goals which included one empty net goal late in the game.

Justin Daigle will be out for the remainder of the 2017 season with an eye injury.

Now at the half way point of the season the Admirals have seven wins and one loss, retaining first place in the standings.

The Admirals go on the road for the next two weeks; traveling to Canterbury this weekend (8th & 9th July) and then to Queenstown to take on the Skycity Stampede again on the 14th and 15th of July.

Our next and last regular season home games will be against Dunedin Thunder on the 29th and 30th July.
